Why Nelly?
In memory of the great Nelly Omar, born in 1911 - lovingly called by the people as "the Gardel in the skirt". As one of 10 children whose father died early, she worked at 12 in a textile factory to help her family. No lesser mentor than Ignacio Corsini had you who early discovered your unmistakable way of singing. Over the years, she cemented her reputation as a strong, dramatic female-theatrical voice, allowing her to choose her engagements. Her radio shows have not been written by lesser poets such as Enrique Cadicamo and Homero Manzi. In 1937 she began a romance with the latter, the most tender and romantic tango poet of his time. It never could be clarified whether he wrote "Malena" for you or for Malena de Toledo .. but surely he dedicated her to "Solamente Ella", "Ninguna" and "Sur" .. his way of showing your love even divorced he wanted for her ..
